FSOTW

1 Jul

One of my all time favorite feelings in the entire history if this great big universe is when I copied a song on iTunes that I love…
And it’s FREE!
If you don’t like that experience, I would kindly suggest visiting a trusted doctor.
No just kidding about the doctor, but I’m serious when I say that iTunes’ “Free Single Of The Week” pretty much changed my musical perspectives. I, as a huge bargain hunter, will take any free music I can get my paws on, whether it’s a popular chart topper or an unknown indie song. Because of this,I’ve been exposed to many different types of music, like alternative, electronic, classical, singer/songwriter, indie rock, and many more.
But the best part about it is that…
Each single is FREEEE!!!
In this picture, you can see all of the wonderful free songs I’ve downloaded… So far! πŸ™‚

But there’s one last secret…
Even though the FSOTW can easily be seen on the iTunes front page, sometimes, there is ANOTHER free song, hiding in the depths of iTunes, just waiting to be discovered! But how, you ask, can you find it?
Simple!
At the bottom of them tunes home page, there are several “buttons” that you can click on, one of which reading “Free on iTunes.” Click on it, and you can see every single free thing on iTunes! Here’s what it looks like:

Sometimes, like this week, there is an additional song that is also free! It’s a wonderful way to get as much music as you can, without spending a dime.
I hope you found this tip helpful! Go on iTunes now and see if you can buy anything for free!

Music Maddie at the MET :D

28 Jun

One of my absolute favorite things to do ov the summer is to take trips into the world’s best city… New York! (Cue Frank Sinatra music πŸ™‚ ) So, seeing as it is summer, my family and I took a day trip into the magical world of concrete, music, bright lights, individuality, fashion, and dreams coming true. First stop of the day?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art!

Now, in this article, part of my inner band geek will submerge, because one exhibit at the museum was all about musical instruments! And let me just say, it was AMAZING. I saw so many cool instruments, like the virginal (it’s like a tiny, portable, foldable, only-like-2-octaves-long piano) and the double chromatic harp! Here’s a picture of one super cool instrument that I never knew existed: the sea dragon!! (sorry for the horrible picture quality)

That was a really great experience for me, to see all of those rare instruments!

Well anyway, enough about instruments. (I deeply apologize for that section if you do not care for instruments. Tee hee πŸ™‚ ) BUT- An extremely exciting exhibit lies ahead! Fashion your seat belts (pun intended) as we trek through the music selection and style preferences of…

PUNK!

There was a HUMONGOUS exhibition centered on the unique style of punk, cleverly titled “PUNK: Chaos to Couture.” It was filled to the brim with plastic models sporting spunky outfits and huge wigs that reminded me a lot of Lady Gaga, actually! I was exposed to a lot of new styles and designs from this. It was so cool! Here are some pictures from the exhibition (I didn’t take them, though).

If you guys have time this summer, you should definitely check out the MET’s exhibits! Not only do they have cool music displays, but they have the most beautiful works of art all throughout the museum. Give it a try… You won’t be disappointed!

Have you guys ever been? What are your favorite exhibits? Let me know in the comments!

Adios for now, amigos!

Musically yours,

I am in musical heaven right now.

One of the best ways to find new music, I have found, is to go to a dance recital or to watch dance routines online. Not only are the songs almost always amazing, but they are also almost never popular songs. This is great because it’s an easy way to listen to new music that you never would have heard any other way!

After following this method above, I am happy to say that I ha e found some new tunes that I am absolutely in love with. Here they are!

(note: some songs may have explicit forms, so if you re interested in looking them up, keep that in mind. most have clean versions as well.)

#1: Roadrunner by M.I.A.
#2: Victim by The Golden Palominos
#3: Suitcase by Emeli SandΓ©
#4: I Who Have Nothing by Haley Reinhart
#5: One Night in Bangkok (Vinylshakerz Screen Cut) by Vinylshakerz
#6: Internet Friends (clean version) by Knife Party
#7: In The Sea by Ingrid Michaelson
#8: Heavy in your Arms by Florence + The Machine
#9: Ride (edited version) by The Golden Palominos

So if you want some new songs, feel free to look these up! And remember the trick- dance recitals or competitions are always jam packed with awesome music.

See ya guys later!

You’ve Got to Try This!

This is the perfect game for any music lover. It’s free, and you can buy it on the App Store! It is so fun it’s crazy. Bottom line, if you like music, you NEED the “Icon Pop Song” app.

Here’s how it works!

For each round, a digital guitar will strum out the basic melody of a song. You will either have to type in the song title or its artist depending on what the directions for that round say. Not only is it super fun to play when you’re bored, but it’s also a good challenge and will strengthen your music detection skills!

(Not to mention, the guitar is ADORABLE. πŸ˜€ )

In case you guys aren’t techie gurus (don’t worry, I’m not one either), here’s a tip. Turn on the little slidy-button-thingy on the side of your iPhone/Pad/Pod (above the volume) before playing. Otherwise, you can’t hear the songs!

And if you’re stuck on a level or two, here’s a secret…
If you look up Icon Pop Song Answers on Google, it’ll help you out. But you didn’t hear it from me! πŸ™‚

So that’s the lo-down on Icon Pop Song! I highly recommend that you go get it for free right this very second.

Au revoir, mes amis!
